Bollywood is a movie industry known for its musicals. With this emphasis on music, one would expect preference being given to actors who could record songs for their movies. But this is not the case as most actors just lip-sync the lines onscreen and leave playback singers to record the songs. Nonetheless, there are a few notable exceptions.
Amitabh is one of the all-time greats of Bollywood when it comes to acting. This All India Radio reject (his voice was poor, or so they felt) has also rendered a few hit songs like “Rang Barse Bhige Chunar Wali” and “Mere angane mein tumhara Kya Kaam he”.
A perfectionist in front of the camera, Aamir decided to experiment in the recording studio and the song “Aati Kya Khandala” from Ghulam ended up as a chart buster. It’s a pity he doesn’t do it more often considering that his second song Bum Bum Bole was another hit.
The courtesan from Devdas is remembered for her exhibition of emotions and the lovely dance sequence with Aishwarya Rai. So brilliant was her performance that her rendering of the song “Kaahe Chhed Mohe” in the movie went unnoticed.
